What is a boonie hat? It is a wide-brim hat commonly used by militaries around the world including the U.S. Military. The Boonie Hat design is similar to a bucket hat but with a stiffer brim. The boonie hat usually has a fabric stretch band of 'branch loops' sewn around the crown of the hat. This 'foliage ring band' is for holding additional vegetation as camouflage. The adjustable chin Strap provides stability. The crown is vented on most styles with rivets or mesh panels. Some boonie hats have Snaps to fix the brim in the style of an Australian bush hat most hunters and Military use the chin strap to roll the edges up. Boonie hats are also known as tropical combat hats, bush hats, jungle hats and boonies as well.

The boonie hat was introduced to the United States armed forces during the Vietnam War, when United States Army Green Berets began wearing them in the field. The boonie hat soon found a permanent place as part of the U.S. Military uniform in all services. The U.S. Military boonie hat comes in a variety of camouflage patterns, the current assortment includes US M81 woodland, three-color desert, ACUPAT, in both desert and woodland versions of MARPAT, as well as the Air Force ABU pattern. The Boonie Hat is great for all outdoor adventures form hunting to camping and combat when you need a good comfortable all around hat to help protect you from the elements the Boonie hat is great.
